GIK Conference - Portland

For the 1st Annual GIK Forum hosted by Mercy Corps and World Vision, Missionary Expediters was
proud to be the Executive Sponsor. We believe whole-heartedly in the work done by these organizations.
And we are blessed to work with many of them.
During the conference, mention was made of the need for a way for all the GIK-oriented humanitarian
organizations to communicate with one another about the various issues involved with procuring,
handling and shipping GIK. In that regard, Missionary Expediters has been involved with a google
group that includes many member organizations of the humanitarian aid community. It has been active
since May 2007.
It is called the Heart for Effective Logistics Planning forum, or H.E.L.P. forum. Many of the largest
GIK shippers in the country are already members. We believe that there are very valuable synergies to
be discovered here. For this reason we are forming a 2nd google group for you all who are engaged in
the relationship-building, procurement, handling and the administration of Gift in Kind aid.
You will be receiving an invitation to join this google group in the coming days. Please answer the
email query and we'll get this established rather quickly. It is time that you all had a way to
communicate all together. On the shipping side, we find it a very useful tool. We believe you will also.
I hope you had a great time at the conference and were encouraged. This is a new year for GIK
development.
The following document is the Powerpoint Presentation that Jack Fong and Emanuel Blaj used at the
GIK conference. Many of you asked for it and we thought this would be the easiest way to get it to
you. Remember being on the website, anyone in the world can just download it directly so please feel
free to have your consignee's and their agents review the content. If you would like more training tools
for your outbound department or for your consignees, we are here to help you with a vast knowledge of
international logistics. We'd be glad to share more.
